Comparative Study of the Silver Nanoparticle Synthesis Ability and Antibacterial Activity of the Piper Betle L. and Piper Sarmentosum Roxb. Extracts

Piper betle (P. betle) and sarmentosum sarmentosum) are the two members of genus, have been reported to be rich in phytochemicals essential oils, which showed strong reducing power, antibacterial, antifungal activities. P. recently has studied applied several commercial products antimicrobial respect, meanwhile its relatives, lesser-known this field. In study, species—P. were compare their ability silver nanoparticle synthesis efficacy antibacterial activity. extracted by distilled water at different temperatures times. Subsequently, total capacity was determined DPPH scavenging Folin-Ciocalteu assays choose appropriate extraction conditions. The solutions prepared extracts (Pb.ext) (Ps.ext) characterized Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Zeta potential, UV-vis, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) measurements. Finally, activity synthesized tested against Escherichia coli using agar diffusion well–variant method. Pb.ext stronger power with higher polyphenol content (~125 mg GAE/mL extract) better (IC50~1.45%). Both green (Pb.AgNP Ps.AgNP) performed significantly on compared initial extracts. Antibacterial tests revealed that Ps.AgNP remarkably growth inhibition as Pb.AgNP. This study would contribute useful important information development based nanoparticles fabricated sarmentosum.
